Artist you need to listen to: Seafret
Seafret is a British duo made up of singer Jack Sedman and guitarist Harry Draper. Since their debut album Tell Me It's Real was released in January of 2016, they've garnered a lot of mainstream attention and popularity for their beautiful music. So beautiful, in fact, that their song Wildfire was used in the romantic drama film 'The Longest Ride' and their popularity grew from there.
However, the duo started from very humble beginnings. In an interview with HuffPost, they admitted that they met at a small open mic night in their hometown of Bridlington, where they were performing as soloists. The two soon began writing music together and officially became known as Seafret. They came up with the name 'Seafret' by drawing inspiration from their hometown by the sea and a fret on a guitar.
As mentioned earlier, Seafret and their debut album were an instant hit and I think this comes down to two main reasons. The first being the motivation behind the songs, and the second being that their music speaks to all walks of life. Unlike some other artists, the sole motivation behind Seafret's music is that they love what they do and creating the music. Because of this, they wanted their music to feel genuine and not forced and its authenticity is prevalent throughout the entirety of their album.
Even though they generally stick to the alternative/indie genre, their music reaches people from all ages, preferred genres and places in the world. This is largely due to the lyrics being relevant regardless of what stage of life you're at, but also because of the stripped back, almost acoustic music allows for a laid back atmosphere that is also extremely emotional.
There is not a single bad or out-of-place song on their debut album Tell Me It's Real, but their are definitely some stand out songs that will either leave you with a smile from ear to ear or sobbing on the floor. The first two songs I'd recommend are probably their most well known; Oceans and Atlantis. The raw emotion and overall feeling of separation and longing of the tracks is simply breath taking and will make you instantly fall in love with the duo. Next, I'd recommend Breath and the albums title track Tell Me It's Real. Both are beautiful stories of love that leave you feeling all warm and tingly. Then, if you're looking for something that's a bit more intense, Seafret have got you covered with the track Be There. Finally, I would recommend To the Sea, a bittersweet duet featuring Rosie Carney that's bound to bring tears to your eyes.
There's something to love about each of Seafret's songs. Tell me what you think in the comments section down below and share this so that more people can experience great music.
